DEVELOPMENT OF MY IMAGES AND FONT
Typography Ideas

To the left is 7 ideas of typography that I could use for the masterhead on the front cover of mine magazine. I wish to call my magazine 'UNPLUGGED' to represent the contents; I want my magazine to be seen as the go on mag for the lastest gossip in the music industry. 'UNPLUGGED' suggests articles and interviews with music artists are filled with juicy gossip than no one music magazine knows (almost as though the artists are being unplugged from their normal routine interviews and being questioned on readers really want to know.
I tried to keep all 7 fonts simliar as I feel a POP magazine can not have sharp, rough edges because this reflects rock and indie genre music magazines. By rounding edges it gives a much smoother, slick look and feel to the font, which is what I wanted to achieve. Some fonts are thin, these are more modern typography and would make the magazine much more up-to-date and suitable for the older teens. However, it may come across too formal for a teenage girls music magazine. This is where I included some bolder, rounder fonts to relfect friendliness. Readers might be attracted to this type of font because it suggests it is a easy going, informal read.

This will be the font appearing on my front cover as the masterhead. It is called Atlantic Cruise. I will also use this font for any heading on the content page and double page spread.

This font is called Dk Searang. It is a clean cut, modern font which matches the magazine house style very well. It is a thin font so this will not be used for headinging however I can use it for sub-heaadings or artist names.

This font is called Authentic Ratatouille. It is a handwriting bold font which I can use then peices of font get personal in the magazine. For example, I could use this font for pull quotes from the interview with Mel on the double page spread.

This font is called Sanit Andrew des Kiwis. Again, it is a informal handwriting font and can be used to be more direct and friendly with the reader. However, It is less bold than text 2 so it won't stand out as much. It is more to highlight certain areas to seperate them.
Original Picture

I sourced all of these fonts from the website www.dafont.com. Once I had selected my font I used the snipping tool to cut the text from the page and save it as an image.
Develepment of Images
Mel's Image from photoshoot edited for front cover.

Hue/saturation/lightness- This bought out the original colours so features stood out such as the eyes and hair.
1.

Photo Filter- The warming filter gave it a soft feel and complimented the other changes.

3.
Background removal- This is to benefit the proccess of making the front cover, therefore the image can overlap certain text or other images.
5.

Skin flawless- I smoothed her skin so that it looked professional
7.

9.
Crop- I cropped the image therefore it would fit on an A4 size piece of paper.
I chose this picture of mel because I thought it reflected Mel's personality the best; I wanted she to come across as the 'girl next door' type of artist and this picture reinforces this. The pose is very relaxed, the slight tilt of her head gives the reader direct eye contact. Mel's warm smile is very inviting to the reader, it suggests the article inside about her will be about her success and postivity.

Brightness and Contrast- It made colours brighter and stronger so the picture looked in better quality
2.
4.
Lips and Teeth edit- This a simple touch up just to make the image look more professional.

6.
Loose hair removal- fine pieces of hair needed to be removed so that the image looked clean cut.

8.
Eye brow penciled in- I did this to fill in any gaps and to make them neater.

10.
A4 paper is the average size for a magazine front cover.

Ed's Image from photoshoot edited for the content page.

1.
Crop- I cropped the image so it was more equal and evened out.
Brightness/Contrast- I reduced the brightness slightly and increased the contrast to make certain features stand out more.
2.
3.
Loose hair removal- hair in front of his face was removed so then it looked more professional.

4.
Skin flawless- just little touches under the eyes to tidy up the picture.
Clean bandits Image edited for the content page.

I cropped the picture because I wanted to focus on the hands in the aire and the smoke. I auto toned, coloured and contrast it because it was bad quality to start off with. Finally I added a red photo filter to bring out the vibrant colours.
Festival Image edited for the content page.

Again I cropped the image to focus on the group of people instead of the surroundings, however I left a bit of grass and the tent so readers can see the festival astomsphere. Then I auto toned, coloured and contrasted it to define the image more.
