Q3. What kind of media insititution might distribute your media product and why?
What is an Insitutuion?
An Media insitution is a profit based establishment, that manages distribution, marketing and production of media products.
There are different media insitutions depending on the media product. For example:

The BBC could produce, market and distribute a TV programme.
This proccess of a media company owning all means (production, marketisation and distribution is called vertical intergration. Choosing a company which can produce, market and distribute my music magazine would be benefitcal because it would save costs and increase profits. Consquently, I can sell my magazine at an affordable price for my target audience.
In regards to my coursework (a music magazine) I need a company which already distrubes magazine...News Corp is a global vertically integrated media company founded by Rupert Murdoch, with properties in film, television, cable, magazines, newspapers and publishing.

However looking at the magazine News Corp own, they are mainly target middled-aged indiviuals. Also, the most frequent genre of magazine is lifestyle. Therefore, I think News Corp will not be a suitable Media Company for my music magazine to be apart because they will have no experience at distributing a music magazine
This lead me to research who distrubutes magazines which have the same genre or similar target audience as my coursework.

IPC MEDIA

IPC Media is a subsidiary of Time Inc. Time Inc. is an American New York-based publishing company. It publishes over 90 magazines.

IPC Media is the UK's leading consumer magazine publisher, with a large portfolio of brands, selling over 350 million copies each year. NME is an example of a music magazine will they publish. Their magazines reach over 70% of UK women and 50% of UK men – that's over 28 million UK people. This makes it a ideal publisher for my magazine as they have a huge repetition and can get my magazine in the shops it needs so that it reaches my target audience.
However due to changes in technology, sales have decreased. People can now find information out about their favourite musicians by the internet therefore they are not wasting their money or time with a monthly magazine. In order to keep up, IPC MEDIA will also need to become more technologically advanced, for example publishing their magazines online. This wouldn't be ideal for my music magazine because my target audience are the main users of the interent, therefore It would benefitcal if my distributor would be able to display my magzine online as well as in the shops.
Bauer Media

Bauer Media is a division of the Bauer Media Group-Europes largest privately owned publishing Group. The Group is a worldwide media empire offering over the 300 magazines in 15 countries, as well as, TV and radio stations. It distributes magazines such as Kerrang, Q closer and Heat. It is argued Bauer Media has the most influenced beause the own so much of the media products. I beileve if my magazine was distributed by Bauer Media it would create a massive audience because they have had great success at distributing othe pop magazines. Also, i think that they would have better distrubution to reach my media product to a mass market rather than a small scake audience like other pop magazines. As well as this, I will have a bigger budget therefore can attract more people with add-ons such as competitions, give aways and big artists.
Unlike IPC, most of Bauer's magazines are not only magazines but they also have their own website, which would be a great advantage for my magazine as i'll be able to meet the need of my target audience.

Using big named supermakets such as Tesco and various popular retailers such as W.H.SMITH to sell my magazine as they is normally the first place the go to get a magazine. However, my target audience are older teen girls and it could be aruged not many 15+ girls go to the supermarket.

I think having visual copies of the magazine online which benefit much more because my target is audience is mainly going to use the internet to find out information.
